Welcome to The Quilting Bee's Civil War Chronicles Club!
| These are the blocks we are working or will be working on in the next few months. Each week Debbie treats the Club members to a dessert that was common to the era of the quilt. We have included the recipes here as well. |
Set-up Month Boiled Raisin Cake |

2 cups raisins 2 cups water ½ cup vegetable oil 1 cup cold water 2 cups white sugar 4 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp ground cloves 1 tsp ground nutmeg 1 tsp baking soda ½ tsp salt
Boil raisins in 2 cups of water for 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Add vegetable oil and cold water to the raisins. Mix sugar, flour, spices, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Add the raisin mixture, and stir until just mixed. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13" baking pan and bake for one hour in a preheated 350° oven. It is done if a toothpick comes out clean.

Block 1: Troubled Times

Rhubarb Strawberry Crunch

1 cup white sugar 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour 3 cups sliced fresh strawberries 3 cups diced rhubarb
Topping: 1½ cups all-purpose 1 cup packed brown sugar 1 cup butter 1 cup rolled oats Preheat oven to 375° F, In a large bowl, mix white sugar, 3 tablespoons flour, strawberries, and rhubarb. Place the mixture in a 9 x 13" baking dish. Mix 1½ cups flour, brown sugar, butter and oats until crumbly. Crumble on top of the rhubarb and strawberry mixture. Bake 45 minutes in the oven or until crisp and lightly browned.
